Greetings from the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute!

Loggerhead turtle hatchling

A beachgoer called the institute to report a loggerhead hatchling found on Lido Beach in Sarasota County. We immediately called Mote Marine Lab’s Stranding Investigations Program so staff could rescue the hatchling. Mote said the hatchling was about one month old and weak, but was in better shape than most they find. The turtle is recovering at Mote, and it will eventually be taken offshore by boat to Sargassum (seaweed) patches and released. Swift action and teamwork led to a successful rescue of this tired turtle, and we're glad it's getting a second chance at life!
