Full Moon Climb

Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
The November Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The Sunset/Full Moon Climb will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will include light hors d'oeuvres and a sparkling cider toast to the full moon. Cost is $15 for the general public and $10 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association (SGLA).
The sun will set at 5:41 p.m. and the "Beaver" moon will rise at5:53 p.m. on November 25. The Beaver full moon marked the time for Native Americans to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm furs for the coming winter. Full Moon names are attributable to Native American tribes, most notably the Algonquin, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons.
After sunset, people are invited to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view of the full moon, as space and time permit. Cost is $10 for the general public and $5 for SGLA members.
The Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island, where Island Drive ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.
Because space is limited, reservations are recommended. For reservations or more information, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 927-7745.
Please note that because the December full moon occurs on Christmas Day, there will not be a Full Moon Climb in December. The November Full Moon Climb will be the final full moon climb of 2015. Happy holidays to all, and we look forward to celebrating the full moons of 2016.

When you spend your dollars locally at an independently owned store more of your money circulates in the community creating a more vibrant, sustainable economy that employs your family and neighbors. Whether it is a hardware store, a restaurant, a bookstore or a shop downtown, every $100 spent in a locally-owned, independent store, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures.

Local businesses pay local property tax which fund schools, city and county offices, emergency services, and recreation programs. They also provide jobs to your family, friends, and neighbors, and they contribute to our local charities.
