There will soon be a new restaurant
on St. George Island.
Franklin
County Commissioners this week gave commercial site plan approval for an 80
seat open air restaurant called Loula and Dan.
Initially
the restaurant planned to have its kitchen, restrooms and cooler portable, so
the whole restaurant could evacuate during a major storm.
That
led to some concerns from residents and other business owners.
Under
the new plan, the kitchen, restrooms, storage and cooler will be permanent but
they will be elevated so that they meet flood requirements.
The
restaurant will have open air patio type dining housed in a Chickee structure –
which basically means under a thatched roof with open walls.
The
plan was recommended by the county planning and zoning board and was approved
unanimously by the county commission.
