Franklin County has a new Community Transportation
Coordinator.
For
years that service has been provided by Croom’s Transportation in Apalachicola.
This
designation allows the Transportation Coordinator to provide cost effective
transportation for residents with disabilities, the elderly, low-income
individuals, and children at risk.
On
Tuesday, Franklin county Commissioners learned that the position will be taken
over by Gulf County Transportation this year and then the state will put the service
out for bid.
County
Coordinator Michael Moron said the decision to end the agreement with Crooms
was made about a month ago at the state level and there was no input from local
groups.
Commissioner
Cheryl Sanders said she didn’t have a problem with the decision but she would
have liked the state to contact county officials if there were any problems so
they could have been remedied quickly.
