APALACHICOLA RESEARCH RESERVE HOSTS WORKSHOP ON LIVING SHORELINES
~Learn the science behind using a living shoreline vs. a harden shoreline~
WHAT: Living Shorelines Workshop
WHEN: Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 2 - 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: 108 Island Dr. Eastpoint, Fl 32328 *For this class please park on the east side of the building off Millender Street.
The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve will host this workshop in conjunction with the Northwest Florida Aquatic Preserves (NWFLAP). Zach Schang, NWFLAP Living Shoreline program manager, will discuss the differences between living and hardened shorelines and how to evaluate a shoreline by physical factors such as wave energy, prevailing wind and wave direction, vegetation and soil type. He will also present living shoreline methods, materials and permitting, as well as share success stories of local living shorelines. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit a local living shoreline.
