Franklin
County says it will take legal action against a company that is illegally
dumping trash on St. George Island.
They didn’t name the company, but
County Coordinator Michael Moron said the company has a history of illegal
dumping on the island and has been warned by the solid waste department on a
number of occasions.
The board on Tuesday agreed to
let the county attorney take whatever action he deems necessary.
Commissioners added that the illegal
dumping problem is not limited to St. George Island.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish said
he is having the same problem on Brownsville Road in Apalachicola with where
someone is tossing household garbage on the side of the road week after week.
He said it doesn’t just look bad
but it also attracts bears.
Commissioners said they will try
to get a camera at the site to finally catch the lawbreaker.
Michael Moron said residents can
also help by reporting any illegal dump sites to the county.
You will soon be able to report
issues and even send pictures of the illegal dumps through the county website
at franklincountyflorida.com.
