Gulf Council Seeking Input on Proposed Amendment -
Modifications to Charter Vessel and Headboat Reporting Requirements

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has scheduled a public hearing webinar Thursday, December 17, 2015, beginning at 6:00 pm EST, ending no later than 9:00 pm EST.

Accurate fisheries information about catch, effort, and discards is necessary to ensure the annual harvest achieves the greatest economic, social, and biological benefits. Additionally, improving data reporting could reduce the likelihood that annual catch limits are exceeded and accountability measures are triggered.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is considering changing the method, frequency, and required data reported by for-hire operators to improve charter vessel and headboat fishery data used for management, monitoring, and compliance of federally permitted for-hire vessels in the Gulf of Mexico.

During the public hearing, Council staff will brief the public on the proposed amendment before opening the meeting for questions and comments.
