There
is a monkey running loose at Alligator Point.
Residents
there have reported what seems to be a Rhesus Macaque monkey at the Point.
They
say it’s been there for about a week.
One
resident was able to snap a picture of it which we’ve posted on the Oyster
Radio facebook page.
The
monkey must be travelling – The Fish and Wildlife Commission said the monkey
was reported in Carrabelle not that long ago.
Rhesus
monkeys are not native to Florida or even to the US but there have been
colonies of them in central and south Florida.
The Rhesus monkeys
are native to South, Central and Southeast
Asia – they are generally used as subjects in medical and biological research – and some people keep them as pets.
FWC said if you
should spot the money, please note the location – preferably with GPS – and report
it to them immediately.
That way they have a
better chance of capturing it.
Whatever you do, don’t
go near it.
FWC said the monkeys
can be aggressive if they feel boxed in or scared.
