Franklin County recognizes two outstanding educators

Franklin County commissioners this week approved resolutions of recognition for two Franklin county natives who have excelled in the field of education.
One resolution was for Dr. Fredrick Humphries, who was born in Apalachicola and graduated from Quinn High School in 1953.
He went on to be a professor before serving as president of Tennessee State University and then FAMU in Tallahassee.
The board also recognized Miss Betty jean Croom Wright, who was also born in Franklin County and graduated from Quinn High School in 1959.
She spent 44 years as a teacher and was recognized for her own system of teaching economics.
Mrs. Wright also received the President’s award for math and science teaching in 1996 and was inducted into the Oklahoma education hall of fame in 2014.
The two will receive their resolutions during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on January 18th in Apalachicola.
The event will be held at the historic Chapman Auditorium and is open to the public.

It will be followed by a march from the Chapman Auditorium to the Franklin county Courthouse.
