Franklin
County wants to bring electric service to the Abercrombie Boat ramp in
Apalachicola to help combat vandalism at the site.
The
county has agreed to begin negotiations with four landowners adjacent to the
boat ramp to get an easement for a power line to the site.
If
they can’t reach an agreement, then they may have to run power about 7 tenths
of a mile around on a public road.
The
county would like to have power at the boat ramp because of an ongoing problem
with vandalism.
A
solar powered light that was placed there was damaged years ago, and more
recently tires were slashed on a number of trucks and trailers.
Their
concern is that things could get worse during hunting season when there could
be upwards of 80 vehicles at the boat ramp.
