Portions of the Apalachicola Bay will close to oyster harvesting this week because of high river levels

Area 1622 of the Apalachicola Bay will close to oyster harvesting at sunset on Monday and area 1642 will close at sunset on Tuesday.
Area 1622 is the conditionally approved winter west 2 area, area 1642 is the conditionally approved winter east bar – it includes Cat Point and East Hole.
The areas are being closed because of high river levels.
The Apalachicola River at Blountstown is expected to crest at about 22 feet on Wednesday, flood stage is 15 feet.

It does take a few days for waters at Blountstown to move into the Apalachicola Bay.
