Franklin County desperately needs
new members for the County Planning and Zoning Board.
The
Planning and Zoning board is a 9 member board that makes recommendations
to the county commission on almost all local zoning issues.
At least
one member on the P and Z has to be from the construction industry; there are
also seats for seafood workers, seafood dealers, and even foresters.
Mister Dan Rosier recently
announced that he is stepping down from the board after almost 8 years – he served
as an at-large member from District 5.
Mister
Rosier’s retirement leaves only 5 active members on the board, and that means
that any time a member can’t make a P and Z meeting, the meeting has to be
rescheduled or cancelled.
This month’s
meeting has already been rescheduled from May 10th to the 17th
because one member will be out of town.
The
constant rescheduling has delayed some local projects – so the county would
like to fill the board as quickly as possible.
County commissioners
are actively seeking new members; anyone interested should call County Coordinator Michael Moron at
653-9783.
The county may
also consider other ways to solve the problem over the long term, which could
include reducing the number of members on the board or reducing the role of P
and Z by allowing county staff to handle some project approvals.
