School grades
were released Friday and the Apalachicola Bay charter School saw
its grade fall from an “A” to a “C”.
Grades for the Franklin County School have
not yet been released.
The ABC school has historically
been a top ranked school, it’s been ranked as an A
school 8 times since 2005.
This was the first year that schools were graded
under a new, tougher formula that reflects the more rigorous
Florida Standards and the Florida Standards Assessment which replaced the FCAT
standardized test.
The number of A-rated schools statewide fell from nearly
1200 last year to 741 this year.
The number of C-rated schools jumped from 880 to
1,246.
Port St. Joe Elementary School in Gulf County dropped
from a B to a C grade this year.
Port St. Joe High School fell from an A to a B.
Wewahitchka elementary School moved up from a B to an
A while Wewahitchka High School got a C grade for the second year in a row.
School grades have been issued since 1999.
High-performing schools and those
that improve their school grade can receive additional funding, while
struggling schools will receive extra help to improve.
