Franklin County seeks oil spill money to fund local projects

County Commissioners are hoping to get some BP oil spill to complete three major projects in our area.
The board is seeking funding for three projects that include the dredging of the Eastpoint channel and for 2 mile channel.
The third is a Regional artificial reef program between Franklin, Gulf and Wakulla counties.
The board approved the projects weeks ago and has already submitted them for funding through the Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund.
The 2 and a half billion dollar fund was created after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill to benefit the natural resources of the Gulf Coast that were impacted by the spill.

The Fund has already supported 75 projects worth nearly $500 million including oyster restoration in the Pensacola Bay and [protecting sea turtles from light pollution on Florida beaches.
