Gray triggerfish will be
off-limits for recreational fishermen in Gulf of Mexico federal waters for the
rest of the year.
The annual June 1st through July 31st season closure is currently in effect.
The gray
triggerfish recreational fishing season was scheduled to reopen on August 1st, but
instead will remain closed through December 31st.
The reason for
the extended closure is that fishermen caught nearly 40 thousand pounds more
triggerfish in 2015 than they were allowed, and that overage is being deducted
from this year’s catch limit.
Currently, the
annual catch limit is 241,200 pounds whole weight.
