16 derelict vessels in Franklin
County are eligible for state money for removal.
The County is applying for newly
authorized Derelict Vessel funds from the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission.
There isn’t much money available;
it’s likely that Franklin County will get about 100 thousand dollars for the
work.
The money would pay for 75% of
the removal costs, Franklin County would have to make up the rest.
The Fish and Wildlife Commission recently
provided a list of 16 boats that are eligible for removal.
Since there is very limited
funding, county officials are trying to get the best price possible to remove
as many vessels as possible.
The board said it will also look
at applying for additional money from an environmental clean-up fund to
hopefully remove more of the boats.
The vessel removal will likely be
done in the fall.
