3 homes on St. George Island hit by lightning in less than a week

Lightning strikes kept volunteer firefighters from St. George Island and Eastpoint very busy over the past few days.
Three homes on St. George Island were impacted by lightning strikes over the past week.
The first lightning strike happened to a home on West Gulf Beach Drive on August 4th.
The lightning caused a fire in the home that was not detected until the next day.
On August 5th a home at Sunset Beach on the East end of St. George Island was struck by lightning.
There was no one in the home at the time, and the call was also delayed for a number of hours.
St. George Island fire chief Jay Abbot said the Eastpoint volunteer fire department helped with both of those fires and he said he wanted to offer his thanks for everything the Department did.
On the night of August the 6th a home at 871 East Gulf beach Drive on the island was impacted by lightning.

In that case the lightning hit a power pole damaging all of the electronics in the building.
