The Gulf of Mexico shrimp harvest was up a little in January.
NOAA Fisheries said 3.5 million pounds of shrimp were landed in the Gulf of Mexico in January, the largest volume of shrimp reported since 2013.
Even with the increase the landing numbers were still over 16 percent below the 15-year historic average for January.
January is typically a slow month for shrimpers, making up between three and five percent of the total U.S. Gulf shrimp landings.
