Gulf of Mexico shrimpers are having a good year

Shrimpers in the Gulf of Mexico are having a good year.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that so far in 2017, Gulf of Mexico shrimpers have harvested 30.3 million pounds of shrimp.

That's up from 23.6 million pounds during the same time last year, and its the largest harvest in the first 5 months of the year since 2006.

The numbers are about 19 percent more than the 15-year historical average.
