Franklin
County has opened bids for the construction of a new office at the
road camp on Highway 65.
The
office the department currently uses was originally built as a house
about 80 years ago and the department really needs to replace it.
The
plans are for a new 2280 square foot building that will provide
office space for the road department as well as mosquito control
which currently operates out of an old 12 by 12 building at the road
camp.
4
companies bid on the work, bids ranged from about 320 thousand
dollars to over 416 thousand dollars.
Two
of the bidders are from Franklin County.
The
bids are being considered by a committee for a recommendation at the
next County commission meeting.
The
problem is there may not be money for the project at this time
because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The
project is being funded through the road department budget, which
gets much of its money through the state gas tax.
The
gas tax fund is now very low because of the lack of travel during the
quarantine.
The
bids are good for 90 days so the county has some time to see if
enough funding is available.
