A Tallahassee man is facing numerous charges after trying to escape a traffic stop on St. George Island on Saturday.
Lance Erickson was stopped on the island after Deputy Maranda Coatney observed what she felt was an impaired driver
When she asked Erickson to exit his vehicle, Erickson refused.
The vehicle’s window was partially down so Deputy Coatney reached inside to try to remove Erickson from the vehicle.
Erickson stepped on the gas and pulled Deputy Coatney along the road; she fell from the vehicle and sustained injuries, which required her to be hospitalized.
Erickson fled the scene and was later spotted by Lt. Crooms on North Bayshore Dr. in Eastpoint.
A vehicle pursuit began and Erickson reached the dead end and then fled on foot.
Lt. Crooms and Lt. Davis of the Apalachicola Police Department pursued him on foot.
Residents in the area spotted Erickson hiding in the marsh and informed deputies who were able to arrest him.
Erickson has a criminal record in Florida and Georgia.
He is charged with aggravated battery on a Law enforcement officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fleeing and eluding a Law enforcement officer.
