Franklin County Commissioners have agreed to seek state funding for two important projects in the county

Franklin County Commissioners have agreed to seek state funding for two important projects in the county.

Earlier this month the board voted to seek money from the legislature to help pay for a new Emergency Management Office at the Apalachicola airport and for a new facility for Weems Memorial hospital.

The county has requested $2.5 million dollars for the new Emergency Operation Center and $7 million dollars for a new facility at Weems.

A new EOC has been a top priority for the county for a number of years as the existing building is almost 50 years old.

It is too small for an Emergency Operation Center and it's located is in a flood zone.

A new hospital building has also been a pressing need for the county for many years.

The applications are due to State Senator Lorraine Ausley and state Representative Jason Shoaf’s offices by November 1st.
