Request for Nominations: U.S. Commissioners to Regional Fisheries Management Organizations

NOAA Fisheries is seeking nominations for qualified individuals to serve as non-government U.S. commissioners to eight regional fisheries management organizations. Commissioners participate in meetings and delegations to help develop and support the United States’ positions on the conservation and management of shared living marine resources. NOAA Fisheries is committed to increasing the diversity of stakeholder voices that represent the United States in our international fisheries engagements, and promoting representation of underserved communities in the pool of potential candidates for appointment as non-government U.S. commissioners to RFMOs.


NOAA Fisheries Is Leading the United Nations in Advancing Ecosystem Approaches to Fisheries Management

At a United Nations conference in May, NOAA Fisheries discussed ecosystem approaches to fisheries management with other interested nations. The event highlighted the importance of an ecosystem approach on a global stage.

Boaters Pay Fines for Approaching Endangered Killer Whales

Two recreational boaters illegally approached endangered Southern Resident killer whales in rented boats last fall. They have agreed to pay fines for violating regulations that protect the whales from vessel traffic and noise.

2022 Share the Shore & Sea Youth Art Contest Winners Announced

NOAA Fisheries is thrilled to announce the winners of the inaugural Share the Shore & Sea Youth Art Contest! More than 250 students from American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Hawai‘i, and the continental United States submitted entries. Their art projects helped raise awareness about responsible wildlife viewing in the Pacific Islands region.

NOAA Advises Public to Avoid Aggressive Dolphin in North Padre Island

The situation for a habituated dolphin off North Padre Island, Texas, is dire, threatening both human safety and the animal’s life. Biologists report the animal is showing more aggressive behavior, separating children from their parents in the water, and isolating swimming pets from their owners.
