A traffic stop on Monday led to the arrest of a major drug trafficker

A traffic stop on Monday led to the arrest of a major drug trafficker.

Franklin County Sheriff AJ Smith said deputies arrested Josh Whaley from Wakulla County who is believed to be a major drug trafficker to Franklin, Wakulla and Leon Counties and maybe other locations.

Whaley was targeted after a suspect in a traffic stop said that Whaley was providing drugs for local dealers to sell.

The sheriff’s Department used the information to set up a sting operation.

Whaley came down from Wakulla County with over 200 grams of meth along with scales and quite a bit of cash.

He has a long rap sheet and he is on federal probation.

He has now been charged with trafficking methamphetamine over 200 grams

While deputies were waiting for Whaley, they also managed to arrest two individuals at Vrooman Park in Eastpoint who they said were leaving drugs at the restroom there to be smuggled into the local jail.

The individuals are Alex Joseph and Zaquan Oliver, both of whom are under 21 and already have a long history of arrests including a number of gun crimes.

The two men are believed to have left marijuana, cigarettes and 170 grams of meth laced with fentanyl.

The Sheriff said some of the deputies may have been exposed to some of the fentanyl while checking the evidence.

The sheriff said he plans to get the US Attorney to take these cases and give these perpetrators some serious prison time.
