Traffic was tied up on the St. George Island bridge on Monday morning after a fire started on the bridge itself

Traffic was tied up on the St. George Island bridge on Monday morning after a fire started on the bridge itself.

The fire was reported around 10 AM.

The fire was near of the big hump of the bridge.

The fire was put out by the St. George Island fire department.

Both lanes of traffic were stopped for about a half an hour until one lane could be opened to let vehicles get through.

Traffic backed up for about a quarter of a mile until the bridge.

Department of Transportation officials investigated the fire and said it was not electrical and did not affect the bridge structure.

They believe trash may have been caught in the bridge structure and somehow caught on fire.
