The shores of St. Joseph Bay possess several archaeological sites that have received limited professional investigation despite their significance. During Pre-Columbian times, this area was the hub of a large shellfish industry entailing acquisition, processing, tool manufacture, and distribution. For centuries this industry served indigenous communities not only in Florida but throughout the Southeast and Midwest of North America Pre-Columbian Archaeological Research Group (PCARG) will share their project, discussing the cultural heritage of the region and the foundation’s current and future research.
