Commerce Secretary Announces Fishery Resource Disaster Determinations for Alaska and Oregon Salmon Fisheries

The Secretary determined that fishery resource disasters occurred in one Oregon and two Alaska salmon fisheries, in response to requests from Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy.

Public Comments on Draft Updated Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management Road Map

NOAA Fisheries is requesting public input on a revised road map that identifies the actions we will take to advance ecosystem-based fisheries management. The public comment period is open through July 31, 2024.

NOAA Fisheries Authorizes Makah Tribe To Resume Gray Whale Hunt

NOAA Fisheries announced the final rule and decision to grant the Makah Tribe a waiver from the take prohibitions in the Marine Mammal Protection Act. This waiver provides for a limited subsistence and ceremonial hunt of Eastern North Pacific gray whales in accordance with the Treaty of Neah Bay of 1855 and quotas established by the International Whaling Commission.

5-Year Review Finds Yelloweye Rockfish and Bocaccio Need Continued Protection, Outlines Recovery Actions

Following a review of threatened Puget Sound/Georgia Basin yelloweye rockfish and endangered bocaccio, biologists concluded that both fish should retain their current status under the Endangered Species Act.

Dead Dolphin Found with Missing Fins and Tail in Queens, New York

The NOAA Office of Law Enforcement is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information regarding a dead bottlenose dolphin found in Queens, New York. The dolphin was found with its dorsal fin, a pectoral fin, and tail removed. They learned that video may exist on social media documenting the dismemberment of the dolphin.
