ARK Challenges Oil Drilling Permit   Oil and rivers don't mix! Apalachicola Riverkeeper is challenging FDEP's "Intent to Issue" a permit to Clearwater Land and Minerals. This permit would allow exploratory oil and gas drilling within the floodplain and adjacent to the Apalachicola River. We are asking  an administrative law judge to issue a recommended order to deny the permit based on several factors, including the potential damage to the river, its surrounding ecosystems, and local economies.   Let's work together to protect the River, Floodplain, Bay--and our region's natural heritage.  Read details  and recent news stories HERE.    Help Stop Oil Drilling by Donating Today

Meet the 2024 RiverTrek Team   We're so excited to introduce this year's team! Our RiverTrek campaign is underway.  The team members are eagerly  launching their individual fundraising campaigns within their respective communities. Later in October, this crew will launch their packed kayaks in Chattahoochee, Florida for a 5 days wilderness immersion trip along the Apalachicola River.   RiverTrek is Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s largest awareness and fundraising campaign of the year. All donations support the outreach, advocacy, education and collective research work of Apalachicola Riverkeeper.    Meet the Team Members Sweet Afternoon in Tallahassee   Thank you Tallahassee area members and supporters! We sure enjoying hanging out with you at this sweet summer tradition. The Ice Cream Social under the live oak trees at Goodwood Museum offers a relaxing setting to catch up with supporters and members, especially with live music from Two Guys and Guitars. Three Cheers for Susan Macken!   Join us in a big shout out of “Happy Work Anniversary” to Susan Macken, Administrative Director at Apalachicola Riverkeeper (ARK). ARK got a large magnitude lucky break when Susan Macken retired to Apalachicola over a decade ago.   In the summer of 2014, Susan began working part-time in our office on Water Street. Susan oversees various office operations, such as the membership database, online store, and fielding inquiries from both visitors and residents throughout the Apalachicola River Basin. She’s also played a considerable role in ensuring the success of the International Coastal Clean Up. Thank you Susan Macken
