A vehicle speeding through Apalachicola Monday night led officers on a high-speed chase to Eastpoint and then back to Apalachicola.

Franklin County Sheriff AJ Smith said the vehicle was spotted at about 9:30 Monday night speeding through Apalachicola.

Law enforcement began pursuit and were taken on a high-speed chase across the bridge to Eastpoint which continued over Wilderness Road and Otter Slide before the vehicle went back toward Apalachicola.

The vehicle was finally stopped on Market Street near the Mill Pond by a deputy whose vehicle was damaged in the process.

The driver of the vehicle was a 17-year-old juvenile named Robbie Estes who was out joy riding.

He was currently out of detention on charges of battery on his grandfather.

Estes was wearing an ankle monitor, but the sheriff said it was not being monitored, an issue he plans to discuss with the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The sheriff said that even though Estes is only 17 years old he is already considered a danger to the community and a career criminal.
