Franklin County Commissioners have approved a new policy that will provide county workers with some additional money if they have to work weekends during the busy tourist season.

The policy was created to address staffing shortages and increased workload during peak-season months during the year.

Basically, county workers who have work weekends will get paid an additional 25% of his or her rate of basic pay for non-overtime hours worked on a Saturday or Sunday between March 1st and September 10th.

Employees entitled to overtime for hours worked will be paid at the standard overtime rate of 1.5 times his or her regular rate of pay.

The new policy took effect last week, and will be subject to renewal each year.
