Franklin
county Commissioners will hold their annual budget workshops next week and have
also approved the dates for the final public budget hearings.
The
budget workshops will be held on July 25th and 26th where
commissioners will consider budget requests from constitutional offices and
county departments as well as the Health Department, Weems Hospital, the
Tourist Development Council and other groups.
They
will also hear from non-profit groups that the county supports including
Franklin’s Promise, the Carrabelle Food Pantry, and Refuge House, among others.
These
are workshops, so commissioners can’t take any official action, but the
meetings give commissioners a chance to see what major capital projects like
equipment purchases might come up during the next budget year.
After
the workshops, the county commission will authorize a millage rate that will go
out on the TRIM notices, which are sent to all property owners in the county.
Once
the millage has been set, the county can reduce the millage, but not increase
it.
The
final public budget hearings will be held on Tuesday, September the 3rd
and Tuesday, September the 17th at 5:15 in the afternoon.
