Franklin County has agreed to ask its Tourist Development Council for money to repair the wooden section of the St. George Island Fishing Pier

Franklin County has agreed to ask its Tourist Development Council for money to repair the wooden section of the St. George Island Fishing Pier.

A full replacement of the decking on the wooden section of the pier is needed as the wood is showing signs of age and could pose a danger to people using the pier.

This wooden section of the pier is approximately 15’ wide by 160’ long.

The wooden section of the pier was installed in 2013 after the cement section of the pier was damaged during Tropical Storm Debby when it was hit by a barge.

The fishing pier is a big attraction for tourists which justifies using TDC money to fund the repairs.

The county will direct purchase the 3” thick pressure treated lumber and stainless-steel fasteners at a cost not to exceed 20 thousand dollars.

Contractor MKM Quality Construction will remove the existing decking and install the new decking at a cost of about 10 thousand dollars.
