Northern California Steelhead Maintain Threatened Status

According to a recent 5-year review, Northern California steelhead require continued protection as a threatened species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. The review found that water use, habitat loss, and climate change continue to compromise the species’ recovery.

Lack of Passage Drives Continued Decline of Upper Willamette Chinook Salmon and Steelhead

We have concluded that Upper Willamette River steelhead and Chinook salmon should remain listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, following a 5-year review of the species. Further habitat restoration is needed to stop the species’ decline, which could be compounded by climate change.
