Highlights NOAA Recommends Nearly $220 Million in Funding for Transformational Habitat Restoration and Coastal Resilience Projects Thirty-two new projects will strengthen the climate resilience of coastal ecosystems and communities under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. NOAA Fisheries Regional Strategic Plans We released five updated regional strategic plans to complement the NOAA Fisheries Strategic Plan. These plans include goals and key strategies for NOAA Fisheries through 2027. United Nations Endorses New “Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture” As more people globally rely on seafood farming for safe, nutritious food, NOAA provided scientific expertise on new guidelines that will develop global aquaculture best practices. Celebrating Habitat Month 2024: Habitat for All Read a message for Habitat Month from Carrie Selberg Robinson, Director of NOAA Fisheries’ Office of Habitat Conservation. After Environmental Disasters, NOAA Works to Restore Habitat for All Through the Damage Assessment, Remediation, and Restoration Program, NOAA aims to restore habitat for fisheries and wildlife and support recreation and tourism for people. Meet NOAA's Habitat Conservation Team Meet some of the Habitat Conservation team and learn more about their work. Meet Chemine Jackels, Marine Habitat Specialist for the NOAA Restoration Center Chemine works as a technical monitor supporting habitat restoration projects in the Pacific Northwest. Meet Krista McCraken, Marine Habitat Resource Specialist for the NOAA Restoration Center Krista supports habitat restoration and community resilience in the South Atlantic.

Alaska Alaska Salmon Research Task Force Completes Science Report The report identifies potential impacts on salmon productivity, gaps in understanding of the Pacific salmon life cycle, and recommended research priorities to support sustainable salmon management in Alaska. First Winter Foraging Ground for Endangered Cook Inlet Beluga Whales Identified Whales were recorded foraging from September to May in the Tuxedni Bay and River, some of the most undisturbed sections of their critical habitat.

New England/Mid-Atlantic Science Blog: Fenway and Her New Calf’s Journey North to Canada Marine mammal observer Alison Ogilvie and others spotted a familiar North Atlantic right whale during their summer aerial surveys in Canada. Beloved Fenway and her calf successfully made the more than 2,000-nautical-mile trip to the feeding grounds. Chesapeake Summer Interns Join Our Team Summer is a busy time at the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office! Field season is in full swing, we’re hosting summer workshops for educators, and there’s lots of incoming habitat and fisheries data to analyze. It’s a great time for us to welcome students for 12-week summer internships. Meet David Bruce, Ecologist at the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office David explores how fish use restored habitat in the Chesapeake Bay.
