Gulf County has filed suit against BP, demanding the oil company pay for the county’s emergency plan to deal with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Gulf County is seeking full reimbursement for the cost it incurs for their emergency action plan and cost of mitigating and cleaning up the Deepwater Horizon spill.
Attorneys for Gulf County say that BP has made statements that it would not fund the Gulf County emergency plan without first approving all its actions. Gulf County is arguing that BP is liable for this catastrophe, and should pay the expenses whether they approved them or not.
The Fort Lauderdale law firm Krupnick, Campbell, Malone, Buser, Slama, Hancock, Liberman & McKee filed the temporary restraining order in the 14th Judicial Circuit on Tuesday.
Gulf County is the first governmental entity in the United States to seek injunctive relief against BP.
