Portions of the St. Marks trail in Wakulla County could be closed for the next 8 months while the trail is improved.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection said six miles of the southern end of the trail in Wakulla County, from SR 267 to Riverside Dr. in the City of St. Marks, will be closed for up to eight months.
Over that time the trail will be resurfaced for the first time in 20 years. The resurfacing will address bumps, dips, crumbling edges and drop offs at the edge of the pavement that have occurred with age.
The repaving project will widen the trail from eight to 12 feet to make the trail safer.
