Two repeat offenders arrested for using illegal nets

Wildlife officers arrested two men last week after catching them using illegal nets to catch mullet at the North end of Little St. George Island.

Officers were on plain clothes water patrol when they saw a boat commercial fishing for mullet. They found that the net being used was made of monofilament which is illegal under Florida’s net ban.

Officers conducted a stop where they discovered that the two men on the boat were repeat offenders - one of whom has had 29 net violation arrests over the past years. The two fishermen were arrested and booked for several misdemeanor and felony charges for fishing with monofilament and illegal nets.

Also seized in the arrest were 500 pounds of mullet along with 200 yards of a monofilament trammel net.
