Two men were arrested last week after Fish and wildlife officers caught them using illegal nets to catch mullet.
FWC officers were working plain-clothes water patrol on Apalachicola Bay when they saw the two men harvesting mullet.
The officers conducted a vessel stop and found the men to be in possession of two illegal entangling nets.
The nets were seized and the men, who were both repeat offenders, were cited for possessing fishing nets with illegal mesh size, use of entangling nets, possession of entangling nets, and using fishing nets over 500 square feet.
Under Florida’s constitution, fishermen are not allowed to use gill nets in state waters or any net that is larger than 500 square feet in inshore or near shore waters.
