New security changes at Franklin County School

There are some new safety and security changes at the Franklin County School this year that parents and visitors should be aware of.

The most obvious change is the new automated gate system at the school.

The gate will be open Monday through Friday from 7 AM till 7 PM as well as during after school activities like football games.

But keep your eyes open for the stop signs across the school entrance because that means the gate is closed.

As a safety measure, emergency responder vehicles are equipped to open the gate in case they have to be on campus quickly.

The other big change is a requirement that all visitors to the school have some type of government issued ID card.

That can include a driver’s license but can also be a state issued ID or military ID.

Visitors will also no longer be able to just sign in – instead all visitors to the Franklin County School will have to present their ID to the school secretary where it will be scanned and entered into the school visitor system.

That system allows the school to review existing databases to check for people who should not be allowed on campus.

The new system will print out a name tag with your picture, name and date which you will have to wear while on campus.

The school said the new security measures are a proactive step to protect Franklin County students.
