Snook fishing remains off-limits till mid-September

Snook fishing in Florida waters will remain off-limits until at least September the 16th.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has temporarily extended the emergency closure of snook harvest and possession which was initially put in place in January after a massive cold snap impacted the snook population.
Catch-and-release fishing for snook is still allowed under this extended closure.
Normally the snook season would have reopened on September the 1st, but the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the opening needs to be delayed to give the commission time to hear a staff report at their September meeting at Pensacola Beach.
During that meeting they will review the latest information on the status of the snook population, receive public input and determine whether to reopen the fall harvest season or continue to prohibit harvest and possession as a precautionary measure.
