The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are moving forward on a plan that will require all hunters to tag harvested white-tailed deer and report the harvest to the FWC.
The FWC said that tagging and reporting game harvests is commonly done in other states, and decided the program would work well in Florida to help monitor the state’s deer herd.
Hunters could either make their report by telephone or internet and all of the data would be available to the public online and updated daily.
The information the state hopes to collect includes the date of harvest, the county where the deer was taken, the method of take, the type of deer and number of antler points on bucks.
The new rules could be approved for final adoption at the February 2011 Commission meeting and would become effective July 1st, 2011, and apply to the 2011-12 hunting season.
