The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is asking the public's help to determine who killed a young female black bear found in the Apalachicola National Forest on December 14th.
The 108-pound bear was apparently killed elsewhere, then dumped on a woods road east of Springhill Road near Fisher Creek in southern Leon County.
The general location where the small bear was found is referred to as Hellen Guard.
Killing a black bear is a felony under Florida law and punishable by a maximum of a $1,000 fine and one year imprisonment.
Runkle said anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the person or people who killed the bear is eligible for a reward under the Wildlife Alert Reward Program.
The rewards range up to $1,000, and callers can remain anonymous.
The Wildlife Alert number is 888-404-3922.
