Governor declares cold weather state of emergency

Governor Charlie Crist has issued a state of Emergency for Florida because of freezing temperatures expected around the state for much of this week.
Freezing temperatures are expected through Wednesday which could impact Florida’s vulnerable crops like bell peppers, sweet corn, sugarcane and even aquaculture crops such as tropical fish.
Highway restrictions for commercial trucks have been eased so that they can quickly harvest and transport crops that are vulnerable to the freezing weather.
The state Department of Transportation has relaxed the weight, height, length and width restrictions for commercial vehicles transporting vulnerable crops to processing sites.
The state of Emergency will remain in effect through this Friday.
