Local unemployment rises for second month


Franklin County unemployment ticked up for the second month in a row in July.

Local unemployment rose from 6.2 percent to 6.5 percent between June and July – even with the increase, Franklin County still had the 4th lowest unemployment rate in the state.

376 people were looking for work in Franklin County last month, up slightly from 362 people in June.

July’s unemployment was much better than a year earlier when it was listed at 7.9 percent.

Gulf County also saw its unemployment increase last month from 8.4 percent to 8.7 percent.

544 people were looking for work in Gulf County in July, up from 524 in June.

In Wakulla County the unemployment rate rose from 7.3 to 7.5 percent, in Liberty County unemployment rose from 7.4 percent to 7.6 percent.

The Statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.6 percent – the same as in June.
