King mackerel fishing ends in western Gulf on Wednesday

NOAA Fisheries Service will close the Western Zone of the Gulf of Mexico to commercial fishing for king mackerel beginning at noon on Wednesday.

The Western Zone is from the U.S./Mexico border to the Alabama/Florida boundary.

Gulf states including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama will close their state waters at the same time.

The closure is being done because the commercial quota of nearly 1.2 million pounds for the western zone has now been reached.
