Area groups awarded BP money to promote seafood and tourism

34 nonprofit organizations and government agencies in Florida will share more than 10 million dollars from BP for promotion of tourism and seafood.
The money is coming from the Gulf Tourism and Seafood Promotional Fund which was created by BP after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
The grants are limited to 500 thousand dollars a year, though some programs may receive more than that over multiple years.
Groups in our area that have been awarded money include the Wakulla County Tourist Development Council which will receive $500,000 dollars to promote the county’s tourism and seafood industries.

The City of Port of St. Joe was awarded $125,000, another $21,480 dollars will go to the Port St. Joe Redevelopment Agency.

Mexico beach was awarded 200 thousand dollars through the program.

Sacred Heart Health System was also awarded nearly 200 thousand dollars through the program.
