Oyster Radio recognized for 26 years of service to Franklin county and surrounding areas

Oyster Radio was recognized by the Franklin County Commission on Tuesday for 26 years of service to Franklin County and the surrounding areas.

Oyster Radio was built by Richard Plessinger and went on the air on July the 4th, 1988.

It is currently owned by Michael and Lena Allen of Eastpoint.

County Commissioners on Tuesday presented Oyster Radio with a resolution for its quarter century of service to the community for providing daily local news and for its support of community events.

Oyster Radio also serves as the county’s emergency broadcast station and the resolution recognized the station for providing vital information during severe weather events.

A copy of the resolution can be seen on the Oyster Radio facebook page.

The county has also helped insure that Oyster Radio’s emergency broadcast capabilities can remain in operation during severe weathers and power outages.

This week the Emergency Operations Office provided an 11 kilowatt generator that will keep the transmitter running even during extended power outages.

Congratulations! Always relied on WOYS to keep us informed when the whole county is in the dark. And being able to listen to you guys using TuneIn Radio is great!
