DOT says it won't lower the speed limit near Eastpoint RV park

The Florida Department of Transportation says it won’t lower the speed limit on a section of Highway 98 just east of Eastpoint.
The County Commission had asked the state to reduce the speed limit to 45 miles an hour in front of the Coastline RV Resort out to the County tourist center.
The current speed limit is 55.
Commission chairman William Massey made the request saying that there is a dangerous situation there because people staying at the RV park walk across the highway to get to the bay and cars sometimes go through there at well over 60 miles an hour.
The Department of Transportation did a traffic evaluation and said it did not justify lowering the speed limit.

Commissioners said they will now ask the state to put signs on the highway alerting drivers to people crossing the highway in that area.
