Port St. Joe To Host Scallop and Music Fest October 2-3, 2015
Gulf County’s largest annual festival will celebrate one of its greatest treasures this fall when it hosts the 19th annual Florida Scallop and Music Festival October 2-3, 2015. This year’s festival will be held at George Core Park along the shore of St. Joseph Bay and will feature country music star Phil Vassar.
Vassar will take the stage Saturday evening October 3, 2015 beginning at 9 pm. Admission to see Phil Vassar is included in your Florida Scallop and Music Festival ticket.
In addition to headliner Phil Vassar, this year’s event will feature John King, a talented Southern Rock and Country performer from North Georgia who is currently on the charts with his new album "On Your Lips" and hit "Tonight, Tonight."
Port St. Joe's own Charlie and Dana Black, members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, will also be performing during the two day festival along with Amanda Cook and Kennesaw Ridge, the Bo Spring Band and other talented musicians including Koncrete Soul, Buddy Hamm and Mark Swindel, CrossRoads and Thirty Three. In addition to top notch entertainment, this year’s scallop festival will also feature art & craft vendors, educational exhibits, a popular kid zone and more than 50 great vendors featuring food, art and more.
General admission to the festival is $5 on Friday and Saturday up until 5 pm. Admission is $10 after 5 on Saturday afternoon. Admission is free for children ages 6 and younger and active military personnel with valid I.D. Parking is free.

About Phil Vassar
Singer and songwriter Phil Vassar, born in 1964 in Lynchburg, Virginia, first appeared in the country music world in the late 90s, when he began co-writing singles for artists like Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Collin Raye and Alan Jackson. In 1999, he was signed on as a recording artist by Arista Nashville. The next year, he released his debut, self-titled album.
Vassar has released a number of successful singles during his career, including Number One hits like “Just Another Day in Paradise” and “In a Real Love.” He has also reached the Top 10 with his singles “Carlene,” “Six-Pack Summer,” “That’s When I Love You,” “American Child,” “Last Day of My Life” and “Love Is a Beautiful Thing.”
In 1999, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers named Vassar their Country Songwriter of the Year. His debut album reached Gold certification and led him to appearances during Kenny Chesney’s tours.
As a songwriter, Vassar has written or co-written songs like “Bye, Bye” and “I’m Alright” for Jo Dee Messina, “Don’t Speak” for Mindy McCready, “For a Little While” for Tim McGraw, and “It’s a Beautiful Life” for Kenny Rogers.
Phil has 8 critcially-acclaimed albums, was ACM Top New Male Vocalist, 2X ASCAP Songwriter of the Year, Billboard Country Songwriter of the Year, and received a Daytime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Original Song”.

About John King It is drive, paired with raw talent and business savvy that took John King out of a little mountain town in Georgia’s Habersham County and into the spotlight opening for award-winning artists, playing over 150 dates per year.
In 2013, Black River Entertainment signed John King to their artist roster; along with “Dancing with the Stars” champion and acclaimed singer/songwriter Kellie Pickler and country music superstar Craig Morgan, (“This Ole Boy,” “International Harvester,” “What I Love About Sunday.”)
