The United States Department of Agriculture is now taking
applications from Florida farmers and ranchers in the Apalachicola River
watershed for a conservation partnership program.
The Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint Rivers Conservation
Partnership Project is designed to improve water quality and quantity through
projects like installing fencing, central pivot irrigation, sprinkler
retro-fits and the planting of cover crops to reduce erosion.
$4 million dollars have been
allocated for the efforts.
Eligible farmers and ranchers
in Jackson, Calhoun and parts of Liberty, Franklin and Gadsden counties can
apply for funding until December 18, 2015.
Farmers
can get more information on how the program will work at the NRCS area office
at 4155 Hollis Drive in Marianna.
You
can call them at 482-2002.
